Flat Nappies

The term ‘Flat nappies’ covers both traditional terry towelling nappies, and the modern ‘prefolds’. Both require some degree of folding (click on the link here for folding tips), and are then used with a waterproof, breathable outer wrap. There are many styles and varieties of wrap available – some are adjustable and so can be used from birth to potty; others are available in different sizes to suit the size of your baby. The wraps are usually fastened with Velcro or poppers. Lastly, a liner goes between the nappy and your baby’s bottom, helping keep her dry, and also to catch the poo. Many of these are biodegradable, and can be flushed away down the toilet.
Flat nappies are usually the cheapest option, as well as being the quickest to dry.
